Established – 1700

The first vines were planted at Vergelegen in 1700 by founder Willem Adriaan van der Stel and included varieties such as ‘blue muscadel’, ‘steendruif’ (Chenin Blanc), white muscadel and frontignan. The farm boasts a rich array of soils; 21 different types have been identified including some that are among the most ancient viticultural soils in the world.


Established – 1973

The name Kanonkop is derived from a hillock (kop) on the Simonsberg mountain above the wine estate from where, during the 17th and 18th centuries, a cannon (kanon) was fired to announce the arrival of sailing ships entering Table Bay. The roar of the cannon would be the signal to local farmers, who were waiting to make the 50-kilometer journey to the harbour, to load up their wagons with fresh fruit and vegetables to barter their produce.

Established – 1942

Each bottle of Jägermeister is produced from the original recipe first invented by Curt Mast over 80 years ago. 56 botanicals (including herbs, blossoms, roots and fruits) are collected to create this elixir composed of five head notes: bitter, sweet, citrusy, herbal and spicy. The unique Jägermeister base is stored in oak barrels for a minimum of nine months before dosage and filtration can begin. The finished product in the iconic green bottle is the result of a process that takes over 365 days – from the collection of the herbs to enjoying the perfect ice-cold shot with a group of friends.
