DGB is a producing wholesaler and as such we may only sell directly to licensed on-and off- trade retailers. We are prohibited by the Liquor Act from supplying alcohol products directly to the public.
Our Head Office is situated halfway between Pretoria and Johannesburg in Midrand. This is the administrative headquarters as well as offices for sales, spirits marketing, our Call Centre and local distribution and warehousing.
The landscape of DGB as it is today was defined in 1999 when Tim Hutchinson the long serving CEO led a management buyout of DGB. This partnership was with Brait, who acquired 80% shareholding from the owner Mr Graham Beck who retained a 20% shareholding. Mr Beck died in 2010 and his family eventually sold his shareholding to Brait in 2015.In 2019 Brait started a process to sell numerous of their investments and in June 2020 Capitalworks in partnership with Tim Hutchinson concluded a transaction to acquire a majority shareholding in DGB. Capitalworks is an Independent Asset Management Business founded by Mr Chad Smart who sat on the DGB Board of Directors for eight years in the early 2000’s. With senior management also invested in the business and with Capitalworks supporting a management team with extensive industry knowledge and experience, the growth & success of the business going forward is assured.
