DGB has enjoyed a long and meaningful relationship with The Johannesburg Children's Home, and it was our pleasure to present a donation of R275 000 for the children at our company Christmas party last week.

The Johannesburg Children's Home is our elected sole charity supported by DGB over many years for the meaningful upliftment and benefit of Home that provides a safe refuge for 64 children of all races who have been found in need of care by the Children's Court.

In the spirit of caring and reaching out to these special kids, we were delighted to present this year's contribution of R275 000 to Narisha Govender and her team who represented the home at our annual Company Christmas Party in Midrand.

DGB wish all the children in the care of the Johannesburg Children's Home a blessed and happy Christmas.

Celebrating over 85 Years of Service

This year, DGB celebrate the 25th milestone of Chief Executive Tim Hutchinson and the 30th year of service of Yunus Ebrahim Deputy MD and Operations Director and Gary Cox, Retail Sales Director.

DGB are proud and thankful for the tremendous dedication, contribution and relationships with customers, suppliers, shareholders and agencies that is represented by these 85 years of service.

Under the driven and visionary leadership of Tim Hutchinson, DGB has prospered after a successful Management buy out and equity partnership with Brait. The acquisition of Boschendal Wines and Franschhoek Cellars are just two of the corporate coups under Tim's management.

Yunus Ebrahim is highly esteemed not only within DGB, but in the liquor industry at large, as one of the most proficient Operations Directors in the business. From the early days of the company, his remarkable savvy and impeccable work ethic has afforded DGB unwavering excellence and service to our customers.

DGB are delighted to celebrate the return of Gary Cox, Director of Sales Retail, after his brief sojourn, and thank him for his passion, dedication and achievement in chasing sales targets over three decades.

The long service of Tim, Yunus and Gary was celebrated at an intimate luncheon with our shareholders, senior management, customers and friends in Johannesburg. We thank those who joined us to reminisce, celebrate and salute our leaders. We look forward to many more prosperous years of mentorship under their remarkable experience.

Franschhoek Cellar hits the Top 10 Sauvignon Blanc List

Congratulations to Richard Duckitt and his team as Franschhoek Cellar Statue de Femme Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is included in the FNB Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 in South Africa announced in Cape Town on Friday.

“Franschhoek Cellar wines are all about friendly sophistication, and our Sauvignon Blanc is the epitome of this style,” says winemaker Richard Duckitt. “The 2011 vintage really played along with great tropical expressions and fresh natural acidity.”

“Statue de Femme originates largely from cool Franschhoek centered vineyards delivering the graceful hallmarks of our valley,” says Richard. “It’s a delicate Sauvignon Blanc with depth and intrigue achieved by lees contact and a hint of Semillon to fill the midpalate. I am really excited that the beauty and potential of this style has been acknowledged amongst the most outspoken Sauvignon Blanc contenders in South Africa.”

The annual Sauvignon Blanc Top 10 Competition held under the auspices of The Sauvignon Blanc Interest Group and sponsored by FNB, now in its 5th year revealed some interesting trends according to panel Chairman Christian Eedes. Most notable is a definite move away from the lean ‘green’ styles of Sauvignon Blanc in favour of fuller, riper fruity versions with good balancing freshness.

Inspired by the ‘Statue de Femme’ the graceful monument built in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the French Huguenots in the Cape, Franschhoek Cellar Sauvignon Blanc is pretty and subtly nuanced with cool climate zesty grapefruit and tangy tropical pineapple at its core for delicious easy enjoyment and great value.

Franschhoek Cellar Statue de Femme Sauvignon Blanc 2011 is available from most supermarkets and fine wine retail outlets at around R40.
