Werdenberg Int’l. Corp recently held an intimate wine tasting event featuring none other than DGB! Miah Montemayor has written a piece for the blog “When In Manila” and highlights the following brands in her piece: Boschendal, The Beachhouse, Ribshack Red and Brampton.

Montemayor describes a glass of the beachhouse as a wine that “allows you to see dynamic images of blue skies, warm sun and soft breeze while you revel in subdued aromas of citrus and floral notes…”. She then goes on to state how Ribshack Red and ribs are the perfect match!

The experience of trying each wine is described by Montemayor as she takes mental notes of the aroma, character and taste of each wine. She describes Brampton’s Rosé beautifully as a wine with “sophistication that makes it an extremely versatile food-wine that can be enjoyed in all dining occasions or on it’s own”.

As Montemayor continues the wine tasting, she herself proclaims that there is always one wine that will make you forget about the others for a moment and for her it is none other than our “liquid gold”, the Boschendal Vin D’Or.

Douglas Green Celebrates their Showstopper Chardonnay

Douglas Green are celebrating Gran d'Or honours for their Vineyards Creations Chardonnay 2011 from The Michelangelo International Wine Awards announced in Cape Town last week.

"What fantastic news as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of Douglas Green Wines!" says an elated Douglas Green Oenologist, Jaco Potgieter. "Recognition like this is tremendously encouraging, as it is a tangible acknowledgement of our tireless efforts in selection of specific vineyards for stylistic expression and varietal performance as well as the brilliant collaboration with our growers and appointed cellars. Douglas Green himself used this exact approach and now seven decades later, we think he would be pleased that his philosophy is still finding favour and winning gold medals."

The 16th annual Michelangelo International Wine Awards attracted more than 1432 entries from 295 producers that were judged by an expert panel of 15 judges from 14 countries. Australian based Cape Wine Master and Technical Director, Sue van Wyk, was enthusiastic about the quality level of the entries saying, "Top scoring wines are of world class quality." A total of 44 Gran d'Or medals were awarded, with only 4 for Chardonnay.

The grapes for the 2011 vintage are from sites grown on the limestone soils of Robertson and Bonnievale that are world-renowned for top class Chardonnay with classic structure and fresh flavours. This solid core was perfectly complemented by the fruit-forward, peachy notes in the fruit from the Worcester area. Each Vineyard blosck was fermented seperately with 80% on French oak, 10% on American oak and the remaining 10% left unwooded. The wine was left on the final lees for further complexity and integration before final blending and bottling at our cellars in Wellington.

What makes this a stand-out Chardonnay? "This is the end result of experience and terroir with a proven track record for varietal performance packed with sunny ripe fleshy peach, lime marmalade and orange blossom delicacy finishing with discreet vanilla and tangy pineapple flavour," says Jaco. "It is a very attractive wine, and the 2012 vintage is looking even better!"

Douglas Green Chardonnay 2011 is available at selected wine retailers at an average retail selling price of R45.00.

New Wines Enjoyed By All!

The Wellington Team recently delighted in an evening where Natasha and Yolanda once again outdid themselves on the décor front!

Honey Badger Sweet Red, surrounded by buzzing-bee cut outs and snacks were the order of the evening, accompanied by Bellingham Citrus Chenin Blanc. The launch of both these new wines has been a highly enjoyable one!

Honey Badger Sweet Red boasts a smoky, chocolate nose and showcases a ripe berry finish that is rich and full in flavour whilst the orange, tangerine and elderflower flavours of Bellingham Citrus Grove leave the palate zesty and clean. Try them out for yourself- you won’t be disappointed!
