Bellingham The Bernard Series do 5 star honour to Bernard Podlashuk, founder of modern Bellingham and to Niel Groenewald, Bellingham’s innovative Cellarmaster and his team at the launch of the 2016 Platters South African Wine Guide on Thursday evening. Two Bellingham Wines from their premium range The Bernard Series, the Whole Bunch Roussanne 2015 and the Basket Press Syrah 2013 were awarded 5 star status in a first for the winery. The Syrah being one of only 5 awarded 5 stars, and the Roussanne being the only one ever to be awarded 5 stars.
Recently scored over 90 points by Tim Atkin, British Master of Wine, and well received by Steve Tanzer, the USA wine critic, widely respected for his knowledgeable, conservative wine criticism, The Bellingham Bernard Series are sought after both locally and overseas.
The Bellingham The Bernard Series Roussanne 2015 has fynbos flowers, and herb tea on the nose. The flavours are exotic and tropical with ripe kiwi, desiccated pineapple and white fleshed peaches. Complex, layered, vibrant, excellent food wine.
The Bellingham The Bernard Series Basket Press Syrah 2013 is redolent with white and black ground pepper, dark chocolate and rustic berries like mulberries and roadside brambles. Generous palate, ripe well integrated tannins with Parma Violets and bloodplums in the long aftertaste.
Look out for these wines, and The Bernard Series Bush Vine Pinotage 2014, the Small Barrel SMV 2013 and the Whole Bunch Marsanne [4.5 stars in Platters 2016] at you favourite wine merchant.
